Life Cover – What can you buy with a tenner?

The cost of living always seems to always be on the rise and more and more people are struggling just to make ends meet. With the prices of everyday items seeming to go up and up, it’s fair to say that £10 doesn’t go very far any more. Let’s look at what it could buy you:

• Less than 7.5 litres of unleaded petrol (average price per litre on 7 November 2011 was £1.34.81)

• 25 days’ TV Licence (the annual fee for a TV Licence is currently £145.502)

• The Kindle edition of the latest Stephen King novel3

What a regular £10 payment can buy most people, however, is a great deal of financial peace of mind through life cover.

Life cover is a valuable form of insurance which pays a cash lump sum on death or the diagnosis of a terminal illness (that is an incurable illness that is expected to cause death within 12 months). You can buy life cover for one person or a couple jointly. The lump sum can be a level amount that remains the same throughout the term of the policy or it can decrease each year (a cheaper alternative that is most commonly chosen to cover the outstanding balance on a repayment mortgage).

When someone dies, those left behind have so many legal, funeral and other arrangements to cope with on top of their grief. Many will also have to face the added burden of sorting out their finances. Bills will still need to be paid, everyday and emergency costs will still need to be funded and ‘treats’ could become a thing of the past. The loss of a breadwinner can be a huge financial blow to their family, especially if they die at a relatively young age.

Life cover can help their family avoid these additional financial worries. Take a look at these examples of how much life cover can be bought for £10 a month:

Person(s) covered Type of cover Monthly cost Amount of life cover
Male age 30 non-smoker Level for 25 years £10 £106,736
Female age 35 smoker Level for 15 years £10 £82,290
Male and female both age 40 and non-smokers Decreasing for 20 years £10 Initially £59,431

All figures are taken from johnlewis insurance. The figures are for illustration only and were correct on 24 November 2011. The actual cost for an individual is based on a number of factors including their age, gender, health, occupation and whether or not they smoke.

You can find lots of useful information about life cover online. Many websites also allow people to apply for their life cover online. And some providers offer a service where you can apply over the phone.

Changing Your Look with Coloured Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are typically used to improve the sight of individuals that have trouble with their eyesight, either far away or up close. Recently, companies have created special, novelty contact lenses that feature different styles and patterns. These lenses do not possess corrective properties, giving anyone the ability to wear a pair. Patterned contact lenses may seem unusual at first but they are actually quite popular among teenagers and young adults. Patterned contact lenses come in a variety of colours and designs, so can be matched to anyone’s style.

Unlike standard contact lenses, patterned or coloured contact lenses are usually worn at specific times of the year. Individuals can be found wearing patterned contact lenses during the Halloween season, which is a perfect time for these types of contact lenses because the wearer looks completely different once the contact lenses are applied. The patterned lenses cover the wearer’s eyes, giving them a look that can appear rather scary. The lenses can be accompanied with masks or costumes to add a level of fright to the overall ensemble. In addition to Halloween, patterned contact lenses can be worn during parties and other events. The type of event is at the wearer’s discretion but there are certain unspoken rules when wearing these lenses. The individual has to decide the acceptable times to wear the lenses. It would be rather odd to see someone wearing patterned contact lenses at a wedding or a gala.

Individuals should be very careful when purchasing patterned contact lenses. Potential wearers should do their research before buying a pair. They want to make sure that they are purchasing from a reputable company and that the patterned contact lenses are of the highest quality. There are a few things to look for when deciding on the right patterned contact lenses. Individuals should learn about the material that makes up patterned contact lenses. Wearers need to keep in mind that patterned contact lenses are foreign objects that will be inserted into their eyes. It is important to know whether the wearer is allergic to the material that is in the contact lenses, in order to prevent a potential allergic reaction and avoid suffering and discomfort on the night.

In addition to learning about the materials used in the contact lenses, individuals should learn about the general care and application of patterned contact lenses. Wearers should always wash their hands before applying the contact lenses and they should ensure that dust isn’t caught underneath. Discomfort can occur if dust is caught underneath the contact lenses so they should be cleaned before use (standard contact lens solution or saline will suffice). Patterned contact lenses should be removed before going to sleep.

Patterned contact lenses can be exciting to wear, if used and cared for properly. It may seem unorthodox to wear contact lenses that change your eyes and face drastically but it can be a fun experience. Once the right pair is found, the wearer can go out in style and experiment with his or her new look.

Tartar is plaque in a toughened form, which is more damaging and difficult to diminish. Toothpastes contain abrasives, detergents, and foaming agents. Strong, healthy teeth help the apperance best. Brush teeth at least twice a day and adults should use dental floss once a day. Take full time while brushing. Spend at least 3 minutes for brushing. Dental caries (tooth decay) can attack the teeth at any age. In actuality, 84% of 17-year-olds have this disease. It may astound you to know that 60% of 15-year-olds experience gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease. Gingivitis that involves the gums but not the latent bone and ligament, is almost always caused by an deposition of plaque. As with caries, cure can be expensive. Toothpastes don’t simply clean teeth any longer. Various types have special components for preventing decay, plaque control, tartar control, whitening, gum care, or desensitizing teeth. Prevent sweets, sticky foods and between-meal snacks is good recommendation . Softly move the brush back and forth or in tiny circles to clean the entire surface. The lesser type of bacteria can radiate from hospital surroundings, gardening or swimming in stagnant waters or even in an ocean. Bacterial Skin Infections are induced by the incidence and growth of microorganisms that damage host tissue. The extent of infection is usually resolute by how many organisms are present and the toxins they release.

Diabetes And The Atkins Diet

The ‘Atkins diet’ is a low carbohydrate diet. Carbohydrates have been taking a beating for their reputed effect on the waistline in recent years due to the surge of low-carb diets such as the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet helds the controversial belief that low fat is not the only manner to go for a healthier lifestyle and weight control.

The Atkins diet is best matched for people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or who are overweight and at risk for developing this disease.

The basis of low carbohydrate diets stems from the idea that foods which have carbohydrates, (e.g. rice, bread, pasta, sugar) promote insulin secretion and hence energy storage and the storage of fat. Low-carb diets are depended on the idea that if carbohydrate intake is limited, the body will use its own fat as a main source of energy.

Ketosis is the same state basically for people who are fasting or experiencing extreme starvation. Ketosis is when there are no glycogen reserves in the liver so the body breaks down muscle mass in order to make energy that are essential for brain function.

The Atkins diet is classified into three phases. Phase I – Carbohydrate is restricted to less than 20 g per day. They are allowed to eat fats, meats, eggs and small amounts of salad. All carbohydrate including food including fruit and milk, should be avoided. Vitamin supplements are encouraged. Phase II – Slightly more carbohydrate is allowed to encourage a gradual ongoing weight loss. Phase III – When the ideal weight is achieved, carbohydrate intake can be increased until the weight stabilizes.

The Atkins diet is very controversial. The Atkins diet does not allow fruit, bread, pasta, grains, nuts, milk and starchy vegetables. The long term effects of the Atkins diet and until this is available it is impossible to predict the happening of long term side effects. It is also not know if this diet has any benefits over conventional diets. It is possibly not advisable for diabetic patients on insulin therapy to attempt the Atkins diet.

The low carbohydrate content would make their blood sugars harder to manage and predispose to hypoglycaemia. Mninmising insulin doses as a result may lead to diabetic ketoacidosis. Men and women lost twice the weight on the Atkins plan, than to those individuals following a ‘high-respected’ low-fat diet.

Homemade White Teeth Recipes

Teeth whitening was formerly an expensive in-office procedure which only the rich and famous could afford. Dentists use laser treatment to remove the fade of tooth. Prior using the tooth whitening products present in market it is better to take suggestion of dentist. Certain factors can cause teeth to dull and yellow.

In place of emptying your pockets by buying these products, there are homemade remedies which you can keep your teeth as white as possible.

  • A paste made with a teaspoon of lemon juice blended with a teaspoon of salt can also be applied as a tooth whitener. Brush your teeth with this paste to help exfoliate and eradicate stains from the teeth.
  • Another homemade recipe for a tooth whitener is mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with many drops of hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide can greatly help reduce stains on the teeth and brighten the color.

Women with Hair Loss

Hair loss can be enormously tricky to accept and deal with especially for women. Hair loss in women is usually very measured, with the rate accelerating during pregnancy and at menopause. It is more frequently recurring than in men, with seasonal changes that reverse themselves. The most widespread pattern of hair loss in women is diffuse and since a diffuse pattern can be induced by a number of medical conditions other than common genetic hair loss, a thorough evaluation is mainly important.

The most general cause is in fact hormonal. Vary in hormone levels, such as those noticed with menopause, pregnancy, thyroid conditions, or the stopping or starting of birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy, can induce transitory hair loss in women. Another frequent cause of hair loss in women is poor diet.

The main dissimilarity among male and female hair loss is the pattern. In men the hairline recedes and moves further and further back until the man might be totally bald. Yet, with hair loss in women the hair thins in a very disperse manner; female hair loss is evenly distributed over the scalp. Women who follow a stern diet and lose weight too quickly can incident temporary hair loss, as can women who do not get enough protein, zinc, fatty acids, or vitamins through food consumption.

The cures of hair loss in women generally vary from the route taken for men. Due to the different causes usually at play for hair loss in women, most hair transplant surgeons would recommend a slightly different hair loss treatment route might be chosen. Women with alopecia must not only face the loss of their hair, but they frequently feel isolated, embarrassed to seek care, and may be irritated by misdiagnosis or poor treatment options.

Prevention and Treatment Tips for Female Hair Loss

  • Use of soft brushes rather than comb is suggested.
  • Hair sprays should be avoided and a superior mousse or soft gel can be used instead. Any product that is insensitive on the hair has to be avoided.
  • Oral treatment used for female hair loss can be a possible solution. This treatment may cause harms with your menstrual cycle.
  • Minoxidil is a relevant treatment for hair loss. Minoxidil is applied on a daily basis to the scalp. The cause for Minoxidil working is not unidentified, except that Minoxidil increases the blood flow to the area. And blood flow is necessary to the healthy hair follicle.
  • Over exposure to the sun can reason irretrievable damage to hair by inducing oxidization of sulfur found in the hair shafts. Hair has to be sheltered from Sun block.

How Skin Ages

Skin is extremely complex, performing lots of functions from care disease-causing organisms out of the body and defending against injury to regulating body temperature and sensation. Your skin’s health and look can be affected by a lot of factors, including age, grooming, eating habits, weather, family history, and society. Skin’s top layers act as a defensive barrier for the body, keeping harmful disease and contaminants out and essential body fluids in. At the deepest layer, new cells are formed that start to migrate up toward the skin’s surface. In young, healthy skin, this cellular turnover method takes about 40 days: 28 days to reach the surface and 12 days to slough off.

In young, healthy skin, new skin cells are well organized, consistent in size, shape, pigmentation and structure. Skin accumulates damage from numerous sources – such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, trauma, pollution and more. The functions of young, healthy skin begin to break down. On the surface, aging skin becomes discolored, lax, wrinkled, dry and rough. Cell turnover slows, plummeting the availability of vital nutrients. Additionally, instead of producing healthy new cells, skin functions now produce cells that are abnormal. Below the surface, collagen and elastin production slows.

Collagen becomes disorganized, less solid and coarser and loses its even construction. This, mutual with degeneration of elastin in the dermis, causes skin to wrinkle and sag. Signs of skin aging are the effect of two different aging methods internal and external. Internal aging is predictable, and normal. The skin loses collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, resulting in thinner skin that sags and forms wrinkles and folds. The loss of moisture and natural oils as we age adds to fine lines in the skin. These factors, shared with the marks of normal facial expressions, such as smiling and laughing.

Over time can leave everyone with a few more lines, creases and folds with each passing year. External aging is due to factors that can be forbidden, such as the environment and bad habits. The sun and smoking are two of the major suppliers to premature aging. Poor diet and alcohol intake can take a toll on your skin too. Everyone can have vibrant, healthier skin by minimizing the effects of external aging. Apply sunscreen and wear suitable clothing for protection from the sun. Apply moisturizing lotion to your skin. Properly moisturized skin is less probable to break and become aggravated. Drinking lot of water every day can assist too.

Male Hair Loss

Male hair loss, also known as male pattern baldness, is the most common type of hair loss and is caused by a genetic sensitivity of the hair follicles to male hormones.  This sensitivity causes the hair follicles to shrink and eventually become unable to produce new hair.

Male hair loss usually begins with a receding hairline and thinning hair on the top of the head.  Eventually the balding areas converge and the hair that remains grows only at the sides and back of the head.

Male hair loss can be treated with surgery or medication.  In hair restoration surgery, tissue containing follicles from the scalp in an area where the hair is still growing normally is removed and grafted onto the area with the dormant follicles.  This surgery is the most effective and permanent treatment for male hair loss, but it is expensive at over $4,000 for an operation.

The most popular medications for male hair loss are minoxodil (best known under the brand name Rogaine) and finasteride (also known as Propecia).  Minoxodil works by blocking the production of DHT, the hormone which causes the follicle to shrink.  It is effective for approximately 60% of patients suffering from male hair loss, and must be taken continually to remain operative. Rogaine is a topical treatment that is available over the counter and costs approximately $50 for a three month supply.

Propecia is an oral medication that is available only with a doctor’s prescription.  It both stimulates new hair growth and stops hair loss.  Propecia is effective for approximately 80% of male hair loss, but it is expensive and many insurance companies limit coverage for it.  Propecia also has some unpleasant side effects, so it is recommended to try other hair loss solutions first.

A purely cosmetic solution to male hair loss is hair weaves, in which natural-looking hair pieces are sewn into braided existing hair and then glued to hold them in place.  Hair weaves can greatly improve the appearance of male hair loss, but they need to be replaced after several months and they can weaken the structure of the existing hair.  They’re also difficult to apply to relatively short hair, so they should be done only by experienced practitioners and are only recommended as a temporary response to hair loss.

Another popular strategy for male hair loss is to simply shave the head and flaunt baldness.  This solution was an unusual one when Yul Brenner and Telly Savalas chose it, but modern celebrities have made it more popular and most women today prefer the look of a natural bald head to artificial hairpieces.  Some of the most well known celebrities who show off their male hair loss are Michael Jordan, Sean Connery,  Bruce Willis, Patrick Stewart, Andre Agassi, Vin Diesel, Taye Diggs, Chris Daughtry, Jason Statham and Michael Rosenbaum.

The worst solution for male hair loss is the comb-over, in which one side of the hair is grown much longer than the other side and then is combed over the bald spot in order to cover it.  This look is too obvious and is not recommended.
