Menopause and Dry Skin
Dry skin also called xerosis. Dry skin is most often in your lower legs, arms, flanks (sides of the abdomen), and thighs. The symptoms often related with dry skin include scaling ,itching and cracks in the skin. The skin has a desiccated look caused by its inability to retain moisture. It normally feels “tight” and uncomfortable after washing unless some kind of moisturizer or skin cream is used.
Fellowing and cracking are signs of extremely dry, dehydrated skin. Dryness is infuriated by wind, extremes of temperature and air-conditioning, all of which cause the skin to flake, chap and feel tight. This skin is tightly drawn above bones. Some people also have a genetic, or hereditary, tendency to create dry skin. In addition, elderly people tend to have more worry with dry skin due to the natural changes in skin that occur with age. Dry skin and menopause do not need to go hand in hand. Menopause can be a soft transition, but you have to work at it.
Menopause is not an illness. Menopause period of natural termination of menstruation. Between the ages of 40 and 60, women who have not subjected to surgery to remove their ovaries will experience the effects of these organs shutting down, otherwise called menopause. Though ovaries are amenable for producing hormones, menopause is a time of great change. Symptoms of the menopause can cause hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings, declining libido, osteoporosis, ageing skin, lack of energy, joint pains, weight gain, headaches and changes in hair quality.
Many women choose to replace the estrogen in their bodies through hormone replacement therapy. Taking estrogen orally can do a lot to conflict menopause symptoms including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, dry skin, mood swings, etc. There are several herbal and vitamin therapies that go a long way in alleviating dry skin such as vitamins A and E. Drink plenty of water. Drinking water is adequate for your physical health as well as the health of your skin.
