Hair and Pregnancy

Pregnancy is the conveying of one or more offspring, known as a fetus or embryo, inside the body of a female mammal such as a human, between conception and birth. In a pregnancy, there can be multiple gestations. Human pregnancy is the most considered of all mammalian pregnancies, and the medical field which deals with pregnancy is called obstetrics.

Pregnancy varies peoples’ lives in so many ways. It brings people together, it turns couples into families, and in some cases it saves lives. Pregnancy also changes one’s skin and joints and may make or break her crowning fame. The hormones associated with pregnancy may cause strange things to happen to your once normal body. Most women experience increased hair and nail growth as well as thicker and shinier hair. However, some women experience the sassy side of that coin. Dryness, breakage and loss of hair are common infirmities from pregnant women.

Hair often breaks off about an inch or two from the root and can be very eye-catching at the part. About 90% of your hair is growing at any one time, while the other 10% enter a resting stage. Hair loss that is connected to pregnancy normally occurs after delivery.

During pregnancy, an increased number of hairs go into the resting stage, which is part of the general hair loss cycle. This condition is not weighty enough to cause bald spots or permanent hair loss, and should begin to decrease within 3-4 months after delivery. Hair loss can be triggered by anything that involves a variance in the estrogen hormone balance in your system. During pregnancy hair changes is a commonly problem. Many women notice that changes to hair on the scalp. Many lose a lot of hair a few weeks or months after delivery. These changes are normal.

Hair growth usually returns to its regular growing cycle within six months after delivery. During pregnancy, hairs tend to remain in the resting phase longer. Hair is fragile when it is wet, so be gentle; avoid fine tooth combs. Women having severe morning sickness or poor eating habits should look to their hair for warning signs that they’re not getting enough nutrients, specially iron. Even a small iron deficiency can lead to dry, delicate hair that’s lighter than your natural color and falls out easily.

To get rid of unwanted hair growth, you can safely tweeze, wax or shave. Neglect using bleaches or depilatories that can be absorbed into the skin. Permanent hair-removal methods (such as electrolysis) are thought to be safe during pregnancy. Use shampoos and conditioners that contain biotin and silica. Have fruits and vegetablesin diet, which contain flavonoids and antioxidants that may provide protection for the hair follicles.
