How Skin Ages
Skin is extremely complex, performing lots of functions from care disease-causing organisms out of the body and defending against injury to regulating body temperature and sensation. In young, healthy skin, new skin cells are well organized, consistent in size, shape, pigmentation and structure. Skin accumulates damage from numerous sources – such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, trauma, pollution and more. The functions of young, healthy skin begin to break down. On the surface, aging skin becomes discolored, lax, wrinkled, dry and rough. Cell turnover slows, plummeting the availability of vital nutrients. Additionally, instead of producing healthy new cells, skin functions now produce cells that are abnormal. Below the surface, collagen and elastin production slows.
Collagen becomes disorganized, less solid and coarser and loses its even construction. This, mutual with degeneration of elastin in the dermis, causes skin to wrinkle and sag. Signs of skin aging are the effect of two different aging methods internal and external. Internal aging is predictable, and normal. The skin loses collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, resulting in thinner skin that sags and forms wrinkles and folds. The loss of moisture and natural oils as we age adds to fine lines in the skin. These factors, shared with the marks of normal facial expressions, such as smiling and laughing.
Over time can leave everyone with a few more lines, creases and folds with each passing year. External aging is due to factors that can be forbidden, such as the environment and bad habits. The sun and smoking are two of the major suppliers to premature aging. Poor diet and alcohol intake can take a toll on your skin too. Everyone can have vibrant, healthier skin by minimizing the effects of external aging. Apply sunscreen and wear suitable clothing for protection from the sun. Apply moisturizing lotion to your skin. Properly moisturized skin is less probable to break and become aggravated. Drinking lot of water every day can assist too.
