Thrush


Oral thrush is a snafu caused by infection of the mouth with the fungus Candida albicans. The condition arises when Candida albicans, causes itching, irritation, discharge, redness, soreness and swelling. But when this balance is chafed by medications or illness. Candida can develop out of control, resulting to problems such as diaper rash and yeast infections as well as oral thrush. Like most healthy people, you likely have tiny amounts of the fungus in your mouth and digestive tract and on your skin. The lesions can be afflictive and may bleed slightly when you scrape them or brush your teeth.

Rarely oral thrush may expanse to the roof of your mouth, your gums, tonsils or the back of your throat. Thrush is a common antediluvian symptom of HIV disease, usually occurring in the mouth. It can become a severe problem if it is left untreated. People having AIDS can also develop thrush deeper within their bodies, in their windpipe, esophagus (throat) or lungs. Oral thrush is a minor complication for healthy children and adults, but for those with sabotage immune systems, symptoms of oral thrush may be more severe, widespread and difficult to control.

Causes of Thrush

The common Causes of Thrush :

  • Taking antibiotics
  • Hormonal changes during pregnancy, the menstrual cycle or menopause
  • Using the oral contraceptive pill
  • Suffering from an infection or illness

Symptoms of Thrush

Some Symptoms of Thrush :

  • Soreness.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Thick, paltry discharge under the foreskin.
  • A bad taste in the mouth or difficulty tasting foods.

Treatment of Thrush

  • Locally applied creams, pessaries, lozenges or gels, based on the site affected. The most broadly used are the imidazoles although there are other useful preparations. If in doubt, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Systemically administered preparations, such as capsules or tablets. These are expensive, but very effective, and usually only require a single dose.
  • Avoid bath additives, perfumed soaps, and for women avoid douching .
  • Thrush is easily treated using pessaries creams.
