Home Remedies for Itching - Itching Herbal Home Treatment


Itching is a tingling or distressed irritation of the skin. Itches can also happen with or without skin lesions (e.g., bumps or blisters). Itch can either be peripheral, because of stimuli occurring in the skin, or central, when itching is perceived as occurring in the skin though it originates in the central nervous system.

Itching can develop all over the whole body (generalized) or only in a specific location (localized). Presumably the most common cause of itch is psychological, that is, due to stress, anxiety, etc. Stress also can enhance itch from other causes.

Dry skin is another frequent cause of itch. Many people also report sunburn itch following protracted exposure to UV radiation from the sun. Infections and infestations of the skin are another reason of itch.

Common infectious causes of itch involve a fungal infection of the crotch (tinea cruris) commonly known as jock itch as well itching. Normally, creams containing antihistamines should not be used, as they themselves can cause an allergic reaction. Wear cool, light, loose bedclothes. Void wearing rough clothing, primarily wool, over an itchy area. Apply moisturizer on the skin, particularly in the dry winter months.

Dry skin is a common cause of itching. Avoid scratching or rubbing the itchy areas. Keep fingernails short to neglect skin damage from scratching. Using a cold compress or applying soothing calamine lotion. Stay away from hot, humid environments. Ultraviolet B therapy can be more valuable than drug treatment for itch in uraemia.

Avoid prolonged exposure to excess heat and humidity. Oral antihistamines may help to manage allergic reactions and itching. Itching can be easily prevented and even cured in mild cases by using some of the powerful home remedies. Use aloe vera, cod liver oil, lemon juice, vitamin E oil, wheat germ oil, or witch hazel tea to the itchy area.

Take a bath with a little peppermint or yellow dock to soothe itching. Baking soda battles itches of all kinds. A hot water application to the affected area will provide instantaneous relief. If itching is in a specific area application of Vicks vapor rub will give immediate relief. Application of vitamin E oil is also fruitful. Caladry works wonders on itchy areas. Keep your body and affected areas dry and clean at all times. Moisture may worsen itching.

Home Remedies for Itching

  • Fresh Chickweed poultice is perfect for itching. Fresh stinging nettle oil can be used on the affected regions.
  • Apply Burdock root oil to the skin to assist heal rashes and itching.
  • Take burdock, chickweed, goldenseal, plantain, or yellow dock in capsule form.
  • Have a bath with a little peppermint or yellow dock to relieve itching. Sum 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to your bath water to relieve itchy skin.
  • Baking soda can be applied in cool bath water to soothe other skin irritations.
  • Apply cold compress to the itchy areas, it is believed to provide relief from itching.
  • Take a bath in one can of evaporated milk; you can add other combinations such as oatmeal, baking soda etc.
  • Apply Aloe Vera, cod liver oil, lemon juice, vitamin E oil, wheat germ oil, or witch hazel tea to the fidgety area.
