Myasthenia Gravis - Symptoms & Treatment


Myasthenia Gravis are clearly well-differentiated and encapsulated, and can be removed completely at surgery a associated with myasthenia gravis but the nature of the association is uncertain. Myasthenia gravis is a disorder neuromuscular transmission disease which is characterized by weakness of voluntary muscles and excessive fatigue. It is developed by an abnormal immune response. The disorder affects only the function of your nerves and muscles, and the muscle weakness you experience improves when you rest. Myasthenia gravis can affect people of any age, but it's more common in women younger than 40 and in men older than 60.

Symptyoms of Myasthenia Gravis

It can affect voluntary muscles in your body. Certain muscles including those of the eyes, face, legs and arms are mostly affected by this disorder :

  • Difficulty speaking (dysarthria), difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), drooping eyelids (ptosis), and double vision (diplopia)
  • Problems in vision such as double vision
  • Nasal-sounding speech and weak neck muscles that give the head a tendency to fall forward or backward.
  • Weakness of muscles in legs and arms
  • Weakness of muscles including those of the face
  • Difficulty in talking, swallowing, breathing and chewing
  • Excessive fatigue

Causes of Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a chronic disorder autoimmune disease which that generally caused by a malfunction of the immune system. The main cause of this disorder is abnormal immune system.other causes are include:

  • Myasthenia Gravis can be caused immune system to make antibodies.
  • Genetic defect, which results in congenital MG, and the circulation of maternal antibodies through the placenta, which result in transient neonatal MG.
  • When impulses travel down the nerve, the nerve endings release a neurotransmitter substance
  • In myasthenia gravis cells that bind to other cells to neutralize.

Treatment of Myasthenia Gravis

There are several therapies available to help reduce and improve muscle weakness.there are several of Myasthenia Gravis are following:

  • Surgery is used to remove the thymus gland.
  • Medications such as cyclosporine, cyclophosphamide and azathioprine can be prescribed by the health care providers.
  • Communication between muscles and nerves can be enhanced by cholinesterase inhibitors such as pyridostigmine.
  • Intravenous immune globulin therapy is effective and an expensive to treatMyasthenia Gravis disorder.
