Food To Avoid during Pregnancy


It's significant to know which foods are safe to eat and which you need to avoid while pregnant. Eating well balanced meals is important at all times. During pregnancy, the main rule of healthy eating during pregnancy is having a balanced diet. This means your diet should include plenty of fruits and vegetables, protein, grains and lots of hydrating fluids. Raw meats such as sushi, seafood (especially shellfish), rare or uncooked beef or poultry should be avoided due to the risk of coliform bacteria, toxoplasmosis and salmonella. Soft cheese such as blue cheese, feta, Brie, Camambert, and Latin-American soft white cheeses such as queso blanco and queso fresco because they may harbor harmful bacteria. Sushi: Avoid sushi trays with raw fish — especially if it has been sitting out on a buffet for any period of time — because it may contain parasites and bacteria. Pate should be avoided because it may contain the bacteria Listeria.. Canned pate, or shelf-safe meat spreads can be eaten.

Deli meats have been known to be tainted with Listeria, which can cause miscarriage. Listeriosis is particularly harmful to fetuses. While the risk is low, you may want to thoroughly reheat deli meats to an internal temperature of 165 degrees or avoid them altogether. Listeria has the ability to traverse the placenta and may infect the baby leading to infection or blood poisoning, which may be life-threatening. If you are pregnant and you are considering eating deli meats, make unerring that you reheat the meat until it is steaming. Fish high in mercury - avoid high-mercury fish such as Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel and Tilefish. Mercury consumed during pregnancy has been associated to developmental delays and brain damage. Specimen of these types of fish include: shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish. Canned, chunk light tuna generally has less amounts of mercury than other tuna, but still should only be eaten in moderation.

Certain types of fish used in sushi should also be avoided because of extreme levels of mercury. When a pregnant woman consumes large amounts of mercury, her baby may grieve brain damage resulting in developmental delays. Liver products contain very high levels of vitamin A which research has shown can cause birth defects. Similarly, any supplements containing high levels of vitamin A should not be taken during pregnancy.

Avoid fish from contaminated lakes and rivers which may be uncovered to high levels of polychlorinated biphyenyls. Pasteurization eliminates bacteria from foods. Most of the milk and yogurt you buy in the grocery store is pasteurized. Ciders and fresh-pressed juices – Examine the labeling carefully to make sure they are pasteurized. Steer clear of roadside juices until after pregnancy. Smoothies – Some bottled smoothies and yogurt drinks are not pasteurized. Raw milk" cheeses – Many delicious soft cheeses, like blue cheeses, brie, feta, Camembert, soft Mexican cheeses and some mozzarellas are not pasteurized. They can carry an illness called listeriosis, that can be dangerous in pregnancy, but is difficult to discern.

Don't take anything without checking with your health care provider. Goldenseal, mugwort, and penny royal are all related with uterine contractions and should be avoided. Vegetables are safe to eat, so you still want to eat them. However, it is essential to make sure they are washed to avoid potential exposure to toxoplasmosis. Carbohydrates – Organic fruits, vegetables, beans and whole-grain breads and pastas. Avoid Carbohydrates.

Avoid caffeine during the first trimester to reduce the probability of a miscarriage. Caffeine can stymie the placenta and affect your baby's heart rate and breathing. As a general rule, caffeine should be definited to fewer than 300 mg per day during pregnancy. Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it helps throw out fluids from the body. This can result in water and calcium loss. It is important that you are drinking plenty of water, juice, and milk rather than caffeinated beverages. Some research shows that large amounts of caffeine are associated with miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and withdrawal symptoms in infants. The safest thing is not to consume caffeine.

During your pregnancy, it is considerable that you try to avoid alcoholic beverages. Prenatal exposure to alcohol can intervene with the healthy development of the baby. Depending on the amount, timing, and motif of use, alcohol consumption during pregnancy can lead to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or other developmental disorders. Exposure to alcohol as an infant pretenses harmful risks, and alcohol does reach the baby during breastfeeding.
