Pregnancy Week by Week
Human pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, or just more than 9 months, from the beginning of the last menstrual period to childbirth. In a pregnancy, there can be multiple gestations (for instance, in the case of twins, or triplets). The primary sign of pregnancy is missing one or more consecutive menstrual periods. Many women experience menstrual irregularities which may cause missed periods, women who miss a period should see their health care provider to find out whether they are pregnant or whether there is another health complication. There's no need to stop exercising during your pregnancy, as long as you're careful and you do suitable sports. A bit of gentle exercise combined with a good diet will help you feel more like blooming mum-to-be than beached whale.
Pregnancy Week 1
This is your warm-up week. We’re using the gestational age technique, so week one begins with the first day of your menstrual period. If you already know you're pregnant, skip ahead to the appropriate week. Doctors start counting from first day of last menstrual period.
Pregnancy Week 2
The time is near as your body is preparing to ovulate. Ovulation usually occurs approximately two weeks after your last period. An egg can be fertilized for only about 12 to 24 hours once the ovum is released. You have only about a 20% chance of getting pregnant each month.
Pregnancy Week 3
Week three is a moment of conception, your baby’s gender is concluded by the chromosomes of the father. Now that fertilization has taken place, the egg continues on its way to the uterus, where it will implant in the uterine lining. During the trip, the fertilized single egg has started dividing and by the time it implants in the uterus, it has grown to over 100 cells. Pregnancy Week 4
When the week four start the egg has reached the uterus and is now searching for a place to settle. Pregnancy Week 5
Week five your baby is working very hard on the development so you may be experiencing extreme fatigue. The very tiny embryo has three layers; the neural tube will form and develop into the nervous system, the middle layer will develop into the heart and circulatory system, bones, muscles, kidneys and reproductive organs, and the inner layer will develop into the intestines, liver, pancreas and bladder. The end of this week, the length of the embryo is about 1.5 to 2 millimeters long.
Pregnancy Week 6
Week six of your pregnancy is an exciting time, as your baby’s heart has begun to beat Omega 3 and DHA are super important to the growth of your baby's brain. The heart is pumping blood, and buds form on the body that will become arms and legs. The brain is forming three different parts first is forebrain for memory and reasoning second is midbrain for message translation to organs and limbs and hindbrain for breathing and muscle movement. Pregnancy Week 7
The baby is only the size of a grain of rice. Development is continuing on the arms and legs. Dark spots are the early formation of the eyes and pits indicate the formation of nostrils and ears. Your face may also be breaking out in acne due the quick acceleration of hormones. Some women find that their clothes start to feel snug as your waist expands.
Pregnancy Week 8
When the week eight start child rapid growth continues. Elbows begin forming and fingers start developing. The legs are beginning to show feet with notches for toes. The face is taking shape as the ears, eyes and tip of the nose appear. This time Mother may be feeling bloated and experiencing indigestion.
Pregnancy Week 9
Week nine of your pregnancy baby’s growth continues. In this time Mother breasts are feeling fuller more than ever and are likely extremely sensitive. The areola typically adumbrates and the lubricating sweat glands on the areola may become prominent. Cartilage and bones begin forming baby has all the major organs, muscles and nerves. Eyelids are beginning to develop, the tongue begins to develop and the truck is straightening and prolongating. Some Mother find they are very emotional around this time; it’s as if you’re experiencing a prolonged bout of PMS! Tell your family this so they can be supportive.
Pregnancy Week 10
Terminology for your baby is now changing too - from an embryo to a fetus. You may start to notice your veins more, particularly in your tummy, breasts and legs. Don’t forget the importance of calcium and ensure you are getting adequate amounts from your foods. Eat some cheese, yogurt and/or milk everyday. This time baby moves around a lot.
Pregnancy Week 11
Week elven is critical part of your baby’s development. Your baby’s head is roughly as big as the rest of the body and head growth will start to slow down. The liver, intestines, brain and lungs are functioning on their own and now fingernails, toenails and hair start growing. Your uterus has grown to the size of a small grapefruit and clothes are likely feeling very snug. Your appetite may be returning now that the major waves of nausea have proceeded. You are also suffering from headaches. You drink lots of water, sleeping plenty of hours and managing your stress levels.
Pregnancy Week 12
Baby's growth continues in week twelve of your pregnancy. Baby has the ability to swallow, and amniotic fluid accumulates. Baby’s face is looking like a little person. Mother also may be noticing a black line (linea nigra) appearing vertically on your abdomen.
Pregnancy Week 13
Week thirteen of your pregnancy baby is so busy and now weighs around 2 ounces. Baby are beginning to form and the eyes are moving closer together. The baby will react to any poking or goading by wriggling around. Mother may be feeling more energetic now that the major work of organ development.
Pregnancy Week 14
Week fourteen of your pregnancy baby’s neck is getting longer and the chin no longer rests on the chest. The baby’s hands are becoming functional. Baby is active so you may start to feel the baby move.Women on their second or third pregnancy tend to notice these sensations erstwhile.
Pregnancy Week 15
Week fifteen of your pregnancy baby is gaining superb use of his or her hands and may even be sucking their thumb. The heart is working very hard pumping around 25 quarts of blood each day. The baby’s skin is extremely transparent and developing a sericeous type of hair called lanugo. Mother caregiver will track the fundal height throughout the remnant of your pregnancy.
Pregnancy Week 16
When week sisteen of your pregnancy baby’s bones have begun hardening. Baby’s body is lengthening out and the legs are now longer than the arms. Baby limbs also move in a harmonized manner. Baby weighs around 3 ounces and it may seem hard to believe that he or she could end up weighing well over 7 pounds! Gender is now presumably recognizable by an ultrasound technician. Mother blood volume has increased significantly. Try to eat an iron rich food at each meal to ensure adequate stores. Do not take extra iron in supplements
Pregnancy Week 17
Week seventeen of your pregnancy baby’s fat begins to accumulate under their skin. Baby is now a large enough size to give you a good kick and may be starting to recognize those sensations. The reflexes are in full force as baby now swallows, winks and sucks.
Pregnancy Week 18
Week eighteen of your pregnancy baby is now nearly half a pound. Baby may be getting very active. He has plenitude of room in the uterus to be performing somersaults. Baby’s first bowel movement (the first of thousands to come!) is accumulating within the bowel. Pads are also forming on the fingertips and toes. Mother feels dizzy or lightheaded, particularly when changing position. This is perfectly normal and experienced by many pregnant women.
Pregnancy Week 19
When week nineteen of your pregnancy baby’s permanent teeth buds are forming behind the baby teeth buds. Reproductive organs are forming rapidly and can be seen on ultrasound. Vernix, a white cheesy substance that protects the skin from the placenta, is forming on the skin. Some baby’s are even born with some of the vernix remaining. Heartburn may now be occurring as your uterus is pushing against your stomach.
Pregnancy Week 20
Week twenty of your pregnancy baby sleeps about one half of the time. Some Mothers experiences tenderness around the belly button as the uterus presses against it. Baby’s heartbeat can be heard through a special stethoscope, and your partner may even be able to hear the heartbeat by pressing their ear against your bare lower abdomen.
Pregnancy Week 21
Week twenty one of your pregnancy baby will spend its remaining weeks getting bigger and putting on weight. Many Mothers report babies are particularly active in the late evening just when they are settling down to try to sleep. Mothers has likely gained around 10-15 pounds and starting to feel pregnant. Keep aiming to eat healthy foods which will help ensure the weight you gain is related to the pregnancy.
Pregnancy Week 22
Week twenty two of your pregnancy baby now weighs almost one pound. Baby needs to put on quite a bit of fat to ensure survival outside of the womb. Baby’s eyelids and eyebrows are now formed. Drinking lots of water and resting with your feet elevated can help palliate some of the swelling.
Pregnancy Week 23
Week twenty three of your pregnancy baby now has fingernails, the lungs have started to develop surfactant, a substance that helps baby’s lungs enlarge following birth. Other changes include the hardening of the bones of the middle ear. Also, the body is growing in a more normal proportion, everyday.
Pregnancy Week 24
When week twenty four of your pregnancy baby is gaining weight through the augmentation of fat and muscle to his or her body. Rapid eye movement for baby has also begun. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the sings of preterm labor. The foetus is around 33cm in length. The fused eyelids now separate into upper and lower lids, allowing the baby to open and shut its eyes. Week 24 of pregnancy includes a baby who is now about one pound and around 8 1/2 inches long. From this point on, strong kicks to the belly are not uncommon for the growing baby.
Pregnancy Week 25
Week twenty five of your pregnancy week by week, major happenings are going on that include development of some joints and ligaments of the spine. In this time baby: 7 ½ to 8 ½ poundsPlacenta: 1 to 2 pounds, Blood volume increase: 4 to 8 pounds, Uterine muscles: 2 to 3 pounds, Breasts 2 to 3 pounds, Amniotic fluid: 1 to 2 pounds, Fat deposits around internal organs: 2 to 10 pounds. Baby is developing spinal structures, lung blood vessels, nostrils, and layers of fat that will soon take away the transparency of it’s skin.
Pregnancy Week 26
At 26 weeks of pregnancy, the baby has grown to nearly two pounds in weight and is about 11 inches in length. The baby is cumulating layers of fat though it is not much at this point. Baby is likely very active in the womb, as the most active weeks are habitually between weeks 24-28.
Pregnancy Week 27
Week 27 of pregnancy marks the beginning of the third trimester. At barely 2 pounds and 15 inches long, the baby. During this week, the baby is also acquiring immunities to infections as the mother’s antibodies cross over the placenta. Breastfeeding also increases the baby’s immunities after birth. The uterus persists to climb on the belly and has now reached almost 3 inches from your belly button.
Pregnancy Week 28
Baby now has eyebrows and eyelashes and hair is growing everyday. During week 28 of pregnancy, and as the baby matures, the smooth and level texture of it’s brain begins to form the grooves and crevasses that are normally associated with the human brain. Baby recognizes your voice so be sure to say lots of nice things. Some problems that arise with this include preterm labor, low birth weight babies, and dangerous blood pressure changes. Avoiding cigarette smoke, and going to a monthly checkup are ways to prevent asthma attacks during pregnancy.
Pregnancy Week 29
Week twenty nine of your pregnancy baby weighs almost 3 pounds and the head is commensurable to the rest of the body. The brain is active and can now control breathing and body temperature. The eyes are starting to move in their sockets. Heartburn problems return mainly because the uterus has now grown to about 3 ½ inches above the belly button and doesn’t leave much room for the stomach to expand. Water will help prevent constipation and hemorrhoids.
Pregnancy Week 30
Week 30 of pregnancy, the amniotic fluid in the stomach institutes to decrease as baby, at 3 pounds and 17 inches in length. Many women can feel different body parts pressed against their stomach during this week. Pregnancy Week 31
Week 31 of pregnancy, comfort levels have definitely declined as the mother increases in bulk and as the baby accumulates layers of fat. Baby’s brain is continuing its fast track for development. The only major organ left to develop are the very important lungs. Baby may be beginning to trail moving objects with his or her eyes and the irises respond to light and dark. At this point in the pregnancy, many women begin to transpire colostrums. Yoga is a good way to relax the muscles and help prepare the body for pregnancy. It is always a good idea to be knowledgeable about the various forms of potential delivery.
Pregnancy Week 32
When week thirty two of your pregnancy baby has been gaining weight quickly these last few weeks due to an increase in fat stores and muscle. Movement is probably slowing down somewhat because the baby is running low on space to perform the acrobatics he or she was a few weeks ago. Also at pregnancy week 32, considerations on delivery methods should be weighed and decided upon. Some women decide to have a birth, complications during labor can leave the physician and mother opting for a cesarean.
Pregnancy Week 33
When week thirty three of your pregnancy baby is growing fast and is probably up to around 4 ½ pounds. The baby spends most of its time asleep. Its movements are strong and coordinated. It has likely assumed the 'head down' position by now, in preparation for birth. Amniotic fluid is at the highest point during your pregnancy and will remain at this level until delivery. Also at pregnancy week 32, considerations on delivery methods should be weighed and decided upon. Mothers is probably also noticing that she is beginning to waddle, which is caused by the pregnancy hormone relaxin. Relaxin causes your hip joints to soften to prepare you for delivery, but this can also cause you to move variantly.
Pregnancy Week 34
When week thirty four of your pregnancy baby is taking in a plenty of fluid and in fact, he or she urinates up to a point per day. Pregnancy can be separated into four distinct stages. The skin will then turn from red to light pink and the baby will look more fleshy. Inflammation along the joints and fingers is a very common symptom of pregnancy week 33.
Pregnancy Week 35
Week thirty five of your pregnancy baby is growing so fast. 34 weeks of pregnancy the baby has grown to almost 20 inches in length and is probably around 5 pounds. By this point, the uterus has expanded to almost 6 inches from the belly button. The baby’s head also begins to move into the pelvis during this week. The baby will continue gaining as most babies gain around one half pound per week in the last month of pregnancy. Common measurements of the baby during this period include a determinations of the baby’s head, the abdomen, and the length of the femur.
Pregnancy Week 36
When week thirty six of your pregnancy baby is around 46cm in length. It has probably nestled its head into its mother's pelvis, ready for birth. If it is born now, its chances for survival are excellent. Development of the lungs is rapid over the next few weeks. As the baby swallows and urinates amniotic fluid, a very exquisite balance is maintained inside the womb. Some signs signaling that labor is approaching include lightening, or when the baby drops into the pelvis. Some women fear that their water will break in a very disquieting situation.
Pregnancy Week 37
At the end of week thirty seven of your pregnancy , most doctors consider the baby to be full term. At 37 weeks of pregnancy, some women experience a discontinuation of the expansion of their uterus. Few women perhaps even lose a few pounds during these last stages of their pregnancy, having gained about 35 pounds so far. Baby is averaging around 6 ½ pounds and has enough fat stores to keep his or her temperature stable in the outside world.
Pregnancy Week 38
Baby is around 51cm in length and ready to be born. Labor could occur anytime between today and by week 40, so it is best to be arranged. Baby now has an ‘orienting response’ and will turn toward a light shone on mom’s belly. Baby’s first stool, known as meconium, is accumulating in the intestines.
